Tunisia: Call for tenders for 1.7 GW of renewable energy
Call for tenders for 1.7 GW of renewable energy in Tunisia. 1.1 GW of solar capacity and 600 MW of wind power will be added to the grid.
The Tunisian government is launching three tenders for 1,700 MW of renewable energy in Tunisia by 2025. The proposal includes the Hecha and Khobna photovoltaic plants and eight solar projects of 100 MW each. The tender also includes a wind power package with eight locations of up to 75 MW each. According to Industry, Mines and Energy Minister Naila Nouira, the initiative will be backed by an investment of 5 billion dinars ($1.6 billion).
Call for tenders for 1,100 MW of solar energy
As part of the National Renewable Energy Development Plan, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy invites interested developers to submit proposals.
The First component referenced “AO N°001/2022” involves eight separate PV projects of up to 100 MW each, for a total of 800 MW.According to the submission dates below, the proposals for these renewable energy projects in Tunisia will be divided into four phases of two projects each :
– 1st phase: Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 12:00 (Tunis time)
– 2nd phase March 2024
– 3rd phase: November 2024
– 4th phase: September 2025
The government invites developers to bid for a 100 MW concession project. Site selection is the responsibility of the developer.
The Second part of the tender referenced “AO N°02/2022” includes the concession of wind turbines and developer sites. The national development plan includes eight wind power projects. For the period 2022-2025, the maximum allowable output of a single project is 75 MW. According to the submission deadlines below, the call will be made in four phases, with two projects in each phase :
– 1st phase: Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 12:00 (Tunis time)
– 2nd phase: May 2024
– 3rd phase: February 2025
– 4th and last phase: November 2025
Developers will have to submit bids for the 75 MW wind power project under concession, the ministry said. The organizers are free to choose the venue at their own expense and responsibility.
The third and last part of the tender referenced “AO N°03/2022” concerns two concessionary photovoltaic production projects. The solar power plants will be built on 300 hectares in Hecha, Gabes province and 270 hectares in Khobna, Sidi Bouzid province.
The Tunisian government wants to secure 1.1 GW of additional solar capacity while expanding its wind farm to 600 MW. This addition demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to strengthening the country’s energy transition while providing financial opportunities for Tunisia’s renewable energy sector. The country also plans to increase phosphate production. According to Minister Naila Nouira, the target for 2025 is 12 million tons, compared to 3.7 million tons in 2022.Show Changes
